***RCMP Press Release***
On October 22, 2021, shortly before 6 p.m., Spirit River RCMP received a report of a serious injury collision between a water truck and a child on a dirt bike in an area near the Alberta-British Columbia border, south of Township Road 784 and Highway 49.
Spirit River RCMP, along with Dawson Creek RCMP from B.C., Bonanza Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, attended the location. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Spirit River RCMP’s investigation determined the driver of a water truck had made repeated trips between properties when during one of these trips, a young child on a motorbike was in the path of the water truck that was backing up—striking the child.
Spirit River RCMP continue to investigate this collision with the assistance of an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist.
The name and age of the child will not be released. No further updates are anticipated.
