Red Earth Creek RCMP and partners dismantle meth lab thanks to information from the public

Trout Lake, Alta. – On April 19, 2025, Red Earth Creek RCMP received a complaint regarding an abandoned vehicle, near Trout Lake, that seemed to contain stolen property. Trout Lake, a community within Red Earth Creek RCMP patrol area, is 100 kilometers away and accessible in the winter but, in the summer, it needs to be accessed by driving through Wabasca, Alta. This prompted Wabasca RCMP to offer assistance. Upon arrival, the vehicle was discovered but most of the contents had been moved to a nearby wooded area. Firearms and chemical precursors were found near a tent that had been set up for cooking meth. The RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) team was called to assist and ensure the area was made safe. The lab was dismantled and precursors were seized as well as three firearms. No methamphetamine was found on scene.

“I would like to start by thanking the member of the public who came forward with this information” said Cpl. Kevin Douglas, OPS NCO for the Red Earth Creek RCMP. “This is a great example of how your Alberta RCMP can come together and work as a unit to ensure full coverage of every community we police. Furthermore, specialized units like the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s CLEAR team only highlight the expertise within our organization. Thank you to everyone who assisted on this file.”
