Peace River 19 – Ponoka 18 (OT)
Call it a “Comeback for the ages”…
The Peace River Pioneers High School football team are the first-ever 9-a-side Provincial Champions, after a 19-18 Overtime win over the Ponoka Broncs on Friday night in Grande Prairie.
In the middle of a Snowfall Warning, the Broncs took a 15-0 lead into halftime, but needed a field goal in the dying seconds to even force overtime.
The Pioneers win their first-ever Provincial Championship, after three previous trips to the final in 12-a-side.
Even when Peace River High School and Glenmary School had separate teams, Peace River has won the Peace Bowl 7 times and the Athabasca Bowl 3 times…
Now they can add an Alberta Bowl and a Provincial Championship Banner to their collection…
