Province Support Well-Being For Indigenous Women

The Province has provided some funding to a group supporting the well-being for indigenous women.

Rick Wilson, the Minister of Indigenous Relations, says one of their main goals is providing Indigenous women with the skills and support they need to find a career.

“We’re taking action to help indigenous women to find those jobs and have success in Alberta’s rapidly recovering economy. Every sector out there is looking for people right now. All across the Province, that’s the biggest thing I hear is we need people, women, girls, men and they’ll train people too. This is going to be a good help to get some people back into the market to get them working again.”

Wilson says it’s almost a million dollars in grants that they’re providing to the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women.

“Some of the indigenous ladies out there living out in rural areas and then coming into the cities, it can be pretty daunting just navigating around the traffic and for indigenous women especially it can be pretty dangerous for them out there. We’re trying to help them wherever we can and make it as easy as it is to get back into the workforce.”
