The Province’s Health Minister says they’re currently ahead of schedule for their goal of having everyone vaccinated by June 30.
Tyler Shandro was on the Trending 55 Hot Seat and says it’s because of the big distribution capacity they have through both pharmacies and AHS.
“In the next 28 days, we already have about 470-475 thousand people who booked their appointments, but we know that with more vaccines coming from the federal government in the next four weeks than we anticipated, it allows us to open up that eligibility.”
The province recently expanded the eligibility requirements for the vaccine, where everyone ages 12 and up can book appointments starting on Monday.
We also talked about the added health restrictions announced by the province earlier this week.
Shandro says while they may be tough, they have been proven to work noting that the province didn’t have as many cases during the “first wave” last spring because of how well the restrictions worked then and also how the restrictions back in December brought down case numbers as well.
“We were really hoping that the vaccines would beat the variants. The variants are winning right now and until we can get more vaccines out the door, these measures really are needed to keep that pressure off our healthcare system.”
