Peace River MLA Williams Discusses Provincial Referendums

The municipal elections aren’t the only thing that Albertans will be voting in on October 18.

Provincial referendums will also happen on that day and Peace River MLA Dan Williams says the vote on the equalization formula will be particularly important in our region.

“I don’t think there’s a single teacher in this country, bridge built anywhere or hospital anywhere in this country that doesn’t in some way owe its existence to the prosperity provided by Alberta’s energy sector. I think we have not been getting a fair deal. I think it’s important that folks come out and the best way for you to make your point is to vote yes to a fair deal for Alberta.”

There will also be a vote on Alberta adopting year-round Daylight Savings Time and on Senate nominations.

Williams says the vote on Senate nominees is important to quote “have senators who represent our interests.”

“The last senator that Trudeau appointed from Alberta, in spite of having elected senators in waiting was a journalist who used to write for the Edmonton Journal, Paula Simons. I hope that she supports oil and gas, but I tell you I didn’t hear much of that in her columns for a very long time while she was writing for the Edmonton Journal. I think what we need are people who represent the interests of Alberta.”

We talked about several different topics with Williams, including supporting businesses right now even with the restrictions and his reaction to the recent federal election. You can hear the full discussion below.
