A group of Peace River people have set up an event to honour the 215 children that were recently found buried at a former residential school near Kamloops.
The residential school is located on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation land, and was in operation until 1969.

Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc are working with the the B.C. Coroners Service, who were alerted of the discovery last Thursday.
They’ve been contacting the students’ home communities.

The tragedy has weighed heavily on the hearts of Canadians, including people in our region.

To show your support, you’re invited to attend an event at the Treaty 8 Memorial Site in Peace River tonight at 6:00.
The memorial is located in between Riverfront Park and Peace River Broadcasting.

You may also place Teddy Bears or Children’s Shoes at the Memorial Site, or on your porch.
Many are also wearing orange today to honour the victims.
