Peter Thomas has stepped down from the position, effective immediately. Thomas has been with the county for the past seven years, including the last five as the CAO.

“There has been some discussions between us and (Mr. Thomas) for some time,” Reeve Garrett Tomlinson told the Trending 55 Newsroom.  “And both sides agree that it’s time for something new within the county.”

Tomlinson also says that whatever Thomas decides to do next, he’ll have their highest recommendations.

“Council was very disheartened to see Peter go,” Tomlinson said. “He leaves here with a substantive history of accomplishment to be proud of.”

Chief Financial Officer Bob Madore will assume the mantle of Interim CAO, with support from Legislative Services Director Cindy Miller, who’ll help out with the county’s day-to-day management.

As for finding a permanent replacement, Tomlinson says they’re just going to take a breather for now.

“We’ll start the discussions on Monday as to the process we’ll use to fill the position,” he said. “For now, we’ll just take the weekend to grieve the loss of Peter in that position.”
