No Change in Leadership for Peace River Ski Club

The Peace River Ski Club held their Annual General Meeting at the chalet at the Misery Mountain Ski Hill last night.

All executive members, including President Lynden Waites, have been re-elected to their positions.

“We have Jim Taplin on board as Vice-President,” Waites told the Trending 55 Newsroom after the meeting. “Donald Lee has remained on as our Treasurer, and Tamara Wilcox has remained as our Board Secretary.”

Waites, who has served as the club’s president since 2014, also took the time to discuss what was in store for this year.

“We’re definitely fundraising as always,” he said. “Our last year was kind of a dismal snow year. Most people enjoyed a lack of snow with the warmer temperatures, something that Misery Mountain doesn’t deal with that well.

“But we do have snow makers on the hill,” Waites continued. “We bought five new guns last year, and they’ll be up and running again this year, making snow like crazy. In essence, we’re winter farmers working on our crop.”

He adds that they are also working on some summer projects too.

“We’ve got mountain biking on the go,” said Waites. “The next few weeks, we’re going to have some trial mountain biking events. We’ll advertise that, and let people know. We’re going to gage the interest on that, and if it’s successful, we’re going to formally go ahead with a park and trails specifically designed for future biking.”

Waites says their annual fundraising drive starting to happen.

“Our truck raffle has just started, once again compliments of Go Auto and Mighty Peace Chevrolet this year,” he said. “We’ve got a brand-new Chevy, brand-new Dodge, and a brand-new Ford Truck. And for those who aren’t quite into the trucks, they’ve got a chance for a brand-new quad, or a $1,000 early-bird prize for this year.”

Each ticket is $50, and can be purchased from any member, or at one of their many set-ups around the community.

“Canadian Tire is our big seller this year,” said Waites. “We set up tables there pretty much every other weekend, and we set up tables there right in the parking lot.”

The early-bird draw is set to go in August 2017, with the main draw itself to happen in October.
