Navs win despite penalty plagued evening

It was an interesting game for hockey fans as they watched the Navs and the Fairview Flyers battle it out tonight at the Baytex Energy Centre. With 20 penalties called, the audience got louder and the players got more heated.  The Navs pulled through, putting in a good effort winning  4-2.  Each of the goals made by both teams were power play goals, except for one.

Coach Jody Menssa had talked to the team ahead of the game knowing that penalties were going to be a factor of the game. He points out that the team that got the least amount of penalties was the team who won the game. The Navs had 8 and the Flyers had 12.

We asked Menssa what it is he tells his team when they are entering a game that is going to be filled with penalties. He says ” you can preach all you want about discipline, but it’s something as a team that you have to work on, practice and it’s harder than most people think.”

Honourable mentions for  tonight’s game are: Brennan Walker who scored two goals and 1 assist and captain, Calvin Sanders and Kevin Schlack who made two assists.
