Today Nauticol Energy Ltd., announced that they will be a building a 2 billion dollar methanol manufacturing facility in Grande Prairie.
The project is expected to produce up to 3 million metric tonnes of methanol per year, turning Alberta’s natural gas into a value added product. The project is expected to create approximately 1 thousand construction jobs and 200 permanent jobs. The new facility will be adjacent to the International Paper Canada Mill. Nauticol says that by building in that area they will limit impact on the community and will reduce the project’s ecological footprint by 50% compared to traditional methanol facilities.
Construction for the facility will begin in 2019 and it will be built in three stages. PCL Construction will make the facility modules in Alberta and will send them to Grande Prairie.
