Morning Fires Update – May 17

Air quality statements continue to blanket much of the region as scores of wildfires rage.

As of this morning, more than 19-thousand-500 people in Alberta have been forced out of their homes with 91 active wildfires burning in the province, including 27 out of control.

Yesterday about 13-hundred residents were ordered to evacuate the town of Swan Hills.

Meanwhie, evacuation procedures are continuing on the Peavine Metis Settlement, and in Valleyview, where orders are in place.

Evacuees are required to register at their designated EVAC. centers.

511 Alberta is listing all roads in the regions, as open, including Highway 64 near Cleardale and Worsley.

However, officials are saying that services may be limited, because of evacuations.

Starting Thursday, Canada Post is offering free Mail Forwarding services for up to a year for displace residents and businesses in Atikameg, Fox Lake, Grande Prairie, and Rainbow Lake.

Hot, dry and windy conditions are expected to continue, potentially creating more intense and unpredictable fires.
