More Provincial Funding For Tech Innovation

The Alberta government is investing in regional networks to help with boosting tech innovation around the province.

Jobs, Economy and Innovation Minister Doug Schweitzer, says it’s designed to “help all facets of the Alberta Economy”

“Everything from agricultural technology development, you’ve got financial technology services, blockchain, artificial intelligence. If you’re an entrepreneur, Alberta Innovates has a resource to help you grow your company, give you that mentorship, these research innovation networks are structured that way to make sure that they can take early stage ideas and entrepreneurs and help them all the way along in the process.”

Schweitzer says this will help with the new job opportunities being created around the province.

“We’re seeing investment in value added ag, we’re seeing huge opportunities in growth now as tourism opportunities come back on stream. We want to make sure that every single entrepreneur across this province has the resources that they deserve and the opportunities for mentorship to take their ideas and scale it in their communities and grow and get to the full potential of what they’re trying to achieve with their company and their business idea.”

The Alberta Innovation Network was established in 2008 and includes eight regional innovation networks.

A total of $18.7 million is going into the regional innovation networks, including over $700,000 for the Grande Prairie network.
