Mighty Peace Street Festival Coming Up This Weekend

The 2nd Annual Mighty Peace Street Festival is coming up this weekend.

It’s set to begin at 10 AM on Friday, August 18, 2017, and will go right through Saturday in Downtown Peace River.

From 10 to 6 on both days, some street sales will be taking place at various businesses throughout the area.

“We really want to promote the downtown area, as well as the region all around us,” said organizer Sherry Hilton. “And I don’t just mean Peace River itself. We’re also encouraging non-profit groups to set up a booth, and let people know what they do around the region.”

The festival is also continuing with their free concert series that they began last year.

“On Friday, we open at 6 o’clock with Cadillac Junkies out of Edmonton,” said Hilton. “And then from 8 PM ‘til midnight, we have Sweet Tequila performing. They were here last year, they were a hit, and they were awesome. They were very supportive and also do quite a variety of music.”

And on Saturday, a young up-and-coming country performer named Justin LaBrash from Saskatchewan.

“We lucked out and got him a few weeks ago,” Hilton said. “His latest single is called Front Row Seat, and I do see great things coming for this talented young man.”

Some streets will also be shut down while the event goes on.

“We have two side streets this year,” she said. “We have between OT Sports and Scotiabank, and again between Royal Bank right up to Golf World on The Peace.”

A DJ will also be on hand playing music from 10 ‘til 6 on both days.

As well, there will also be some family friendly activities happening at this year’s free event.

“One activity has Hilltop Auto-Wreckers bringing in free horse rides, with a buggy,” said Hilton. “It’s sort-of like a hay ride. So, I encourage one and all to come on down and bring the family.”
