Alberta’s Health Minister Adriana LaGrange has stated that the province’s measles outbreak, with 43 confirmed cases since March, isn’t severe enough for a public address by the chief medical officer, Dr. Mark Joffe.

Despite calls from the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff for a government-led vaccination plan, LaGrange emphasized local efforts to inform and support affected communities.

The association attributes the outbreak to low vaccination rates, with less than 70% of Albertans under two having received two doses of the measles vaccine.

Opposition NDP health critic Sarah Hoffman urges proactive public health communication to curb the spread.

Alberta Health Services highlights the contagious nature of measles and advises those with symptoms to seek guidance via Health Link before visiting healthcare facilities.
