Manning RCMP focuses on distracted driving this June

The Manning RCMP is putting a focus on distracted driving for the entire month of June, and will be increasing enforcement accordingly.

Distracted driving applies to all roads and vehicles in the province, even when stopped at red lights.

At the RCMP’s discretion,the use of warning tickets and/or education materials can be used in place of an official violation ticket when pulled over for distracted driving.

Distracted driving includes the following:

  • using hand-held cell phones
  • texting or e-mailing
  • using electronic devices such as laptop computers, video games, cameras, video entertainment displays and programming portable audio players such as MP3 players
  • entering information on GPS units
  • reading printed materials in the vehicle
  • writing, printing or sketching
  • personal grooming such as brushing and flossing teeth, putting on makeup, curling hair, clipping nails or shaving

In 2020, there were over 21,000 distracted driving convictions in Alberta.
