Todd Loewen from Grande Prairie Smoky says one reason he’s supporting the MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin is because he got into politics for the right reasons.

“As people meet him and spend some time with him, they definitely like him, and like his style,” Loewen told the Trending 55 Newsroom. “I think Albertan’s kind of resonate with (Mr. Jean)’s life experiences, like running and working for businesses. He’s also been both a lawyer and a politician. He’s just had a wide variety of life-experience.”

Loewen says he’s worked with Mr. Jean in the legislature for more than two years.

“I’ve got to know him very well,” he continued. “I like the way he leads, I think he’s the right person for the jobs, and again, he’s there for the right reasons. And I think that’s the most important thing a politician can be.”

Loewen says he intends to campaign for his election for the next three months until the leadership vote itself happens on October 28, 2017.

He was one of seven MLAs to endorse Jean on Thursday, July 27. The list also includes Angela Pitt (Airdrie), Leela Sharon Aheer (Chestermere-Rocky View), Ron Orr (Lacombe-Ponoka), Glen van Dijken (Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock), Don MacIntyre (Innisfail-Sylvan Lake) and Tany Yao (Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo).

Calgary lawyer Doug Schweitzer is already in the race, while former Progressive Conservative (PC) leader Jason Kenney is set to enter the race tomorrow.
