They’re currently in the design process for the new health centre for La Crete.

Peace River MLA Dan Williams says the parties involved want to have the design of it finalized before construction starts.

“What we want to avoid is any kind of Grande Prairie hospital where this takes over and over again with more design changes and change orders. We need to make sure we’re doing the absolute best we can providing value for money for all of our tax payers. We’re going to start with the design phase now, working with the local community, Covenant Health, AHS and the government with Infrastructure that will be doing the build.”

The province is providing a total of $79 million for the health centre, including $46 million in support over the next three years.

Once it’s finally built, Williams says there will be a lot of different services in the facility.

“It’s going to be a primary care centre with new ambulance bays and 24 hour emergency services as well. The most important part of it is maternal health care, especially for low-risk pregnancies and mothers don’t have to be driving all the way across the north just to deliver birth when they can do so in their home community and not have threats of delivering that baby on the side of the highway.”
