Fort Vermillion RCMP advise John D’or Prairie residents to shelter in place – Update 2
John D’or Prairie, Alta. – On April 25, 2024, around 6:15 a.m., Fort Vermilion RCMP received a complaint of a male with a firearm holding a female against her will inside a residence. Due to potential safety risk, RCMP requested the community of John D’or Prairie shelter in place.
RCMP arrived on scene and, once the male was arrested without injuries to the suspect, public or RCMP officers, the shelter in place was lifted.
RCMP later conducted a search warrant in the residence, where a significant number of firearms were located and seized.
Marty D’or (22), a resident of John D’or Prairie, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Hostage taking:
- Careless use of a firearm;
- Unlawful possession of a firearm;
- Pointing a firearm;
- Uttering threats;
- Assault;
- Possession of a prohibited weapon;
- Use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence; and
- Knowingly possess a prohibited weapon.
D’or was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was subsequently remanded into custody, with his next scheduled appearance on May 14, 2024 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Vermilion.
