Ice Advisory Issued For Peace River

An Ice Advisory has been issued for the Peace River.

River levels in Town may begin to rise in response to the approaching ice front over the next few days.

Increased flow from upstream is expected to arrive today, and is anticipated to consolidate the newly formed ice cover, push the ice front downstream and delay freeze-up.

The new ice cover may be unstable and water levels between the Town of Peace River and Kulyna Flats could fluctuate rapidly with an ice cover consolidation.

When freeze-up occurs in Town, it is typical for the water level to rise between 2.5 to 3.5 m.

Given dry the conditions and lower than typical flows, the water levels during freeze-up are expected to be lower than usual.
