****HFCRD Press Release****

Friday, September 3

Shortly after the announcement from the Government of Alberta this morning which made masks mandatory in all indoor public places, the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) Board of Trustees voted to amend the masking requirements for all HFCRD schools. Starting Tuesday September 7th, wearing masks will be required by students, staff and visitors. The vote was conducted electronically, and will be ratified at the next HFCRD Board meeting on Tuesday September 28th.

The following will be required in HFCRD schools starting Tuesday September 7th:

  • All ECS to Grade 12 students, staff and visitors must wear masks while in shared areas of the school when outside of the classroom where physical distancing may not be possible.

  • For ECS to Grade 3 students, wearing masks is strongly recommended.

  • For grades 4 – 12 students, masks are a requirement but can be removed in class while at a desk.

  • All grades must continue to wear masks while on school buses.

  • Exemptions will be made for students and staff who are unable to wear a mask due to medical or other needs.

  • Where necessary, schools will provide students and staff with a mask.

  • All masks must be appropriate for a Catholic school environment and will not be offensive or distracting.

  • Masks are required for staff and students of all grades while singing.

  • Persons seeking a mask exemption at school should discuss their request with the school administration.

  • Masks are not required while eating/drinking, while outdoors or during high intensity physical activity.

This information will be sent to all parents, guardians and staff. The 2021/22 HFCRD Back-to-School Plan has also been amended to reflect the new requirements.

The Board of Trustees strongly feels that the health and safety of everyone in HFCRD schools must remain a priority as the number of cases of COVID-19 continues to rise in the school division jurisdiction. The Board of Trustees, along with Senior Administration, will continue to monitor the public health situation and adjust HFCRD’s operating guidelines as necessary.
