Deputy Chief Smith receives five-year service award
The Town of High Level would like to congratulate Scott Smith, Deputy Fire Chief for the High Level Fire Department, on five years of service as a Town of High Level staff member.
He was presented with a token of the Town’s appreciation during the October 28, 2024, Regular Meeting of Council.
Scott joined the Town of High Level in a full-time capacity in August of 2019 as the town’s first Wildland Urban Interface Team leader. He had been a volunteer firefighter for five
years prior to this appointment.
Serving as a Captain, Scott was instrumental in guiding the first 18 months of the WUI program and the development of the first WUI program curriculum in the province.
In 2021, Scott was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief. Since then, he has developed a welldefined safety plan for the High Level Fire Department, training plans for new recruits, and
assisted in the development of new initiatives such as the HLFD work experience program.
Recently, Scott has taken on the role of Prevention of Safety Codes in High Level, with a focus on inspections, preplanning, and community education.
In 2023, Scott was awarded the Alberta Emergency Service medal as well as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal.
On behalf of Mayor and Council, and the Town of High Level, thank you for your continued service to the community, Deputy Chief Smith!
