The High Level Airport will be getting some much needed funds by the end of the month.

Back in March 2021, the Government of Canada launched its Regional Air Transportation Initiative and High Level will be receiving up to $348,000.

High Level Mayor, Crystal McAteer says the funds will be used for the operations of the airport. “Our administration just received the news Tuesday (August 3) that we were successful in getting the grant.” McAteer says they are excited to have been chosen for the initiative following a two year decline in regional air service.

Over $4 million was announced on August 4 for seven airports in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, to enable the airports to be able to overcome the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

McAteer noted the initiative was made to support regional air transportation in developing and implementing enhanced services for regional connectivity.

When council meets again, they will make a decision on how the money will be used for the airport. The next council meeting is scheduled for August 30.
