Health Canada Recalling More Meds with Valsartan

Health Canada says there will be an expanded recall on blood pressure medication that contains valsartan.

The announcement was made on August 18, 2018, and the recall notice says Teva Canada is voluntarily recalling 8 additional lots of valsartan products in the country as a precaution because they may contain an impurity that could lead to an increased risk of cancer. The impurity in the valsartan is N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).

On July 9, 2018 Health Canada issued its first round of recalls for drugs containing valsartan because of the possible NDMA contamination. Drugs with valsartan are used to help patients with high blood pressure, and patients who have had a recent heart attack or heart failure.
