A big trade in the WHL recently saw Grimshaw’s Keets Fawcett wind up on a new team.

Fawcett was traded from the Calgary Hitmen to the Regina Pats, he says there’s some parts of his game he’s trying to improve on this season.

“With the changes because Calgary change coaches and then the change of teams, it’s been more of a mental game I’ve been trying to work on more so. I’ve also been working on trying to play more physical and trying to play with more confidence and skill and the mental side of it too.”

Fawcett says while he was surprised by getting traded, he was excited about getting a fresh start.

Meanwhile the junior hockey landscape has seen some changes thanks to the NCAA changing their rules to allow players in the Major Junior leagues to be able to play hockey at the NCAA schools in the US.

Fawcett says this will help provide more options for players.

“I think that it will make our league more competitive with the best of the best and it will open up paths for guys to pursue after junior.”

Major junior players were previously ineligible under NCAA rules, meaning players who wanted to go there had to through the Junior A leagues like the AJHL and the BCHL.
