The Grimshaw Town Council has approved the formation of the Vision 2030 Planning Committee to guide preparations for the town’s centennial in 2030. The committee will include community members, two Town Councillors, Town leadership staff, and the Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Committee Development Officer. The first meeting is scheduled in the coming weeks.

In other council decisions, Knelsen Sand and Gravel was awarded the $782,491.75 contract for the 2025 paving project on 47A Street. Council also approved a $5,000 sponsorship for the 2025 Harvest Moon Festival, set for September 12–13, 2026, in Grimshaw. The festival, hosted by the Grimshaw & District Chamber of Commerce, will expand to two days, featuring activities such as an outdoor cinema, Lego competition, car show, open-air market, kids’ fun zone, bouncy castles, food vendors, inflatable costume race, live music, and beer gardens.

Additionally, council approved upgrades to the upstairs flooring at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex, replacing the current surface with a higher-quality commercial-grade product to match the new downstairs flooring. This upgrade aims to reduce long-term maintenance costs and improve durability, with funding from the Town’s capital reserves.

The Peace Regional RCMP’s Q4 report, covering January to March 2025, was reviewed, showing a 21% decrease in criminal code offences compared to the same period last year. Property crimes remain a focus, with ongoing investigations and community partnerships addressing problem areas. Community engagement continues through programs like “Coffee with a Cop,” school presentations, and meetings with local leaders.

Council also supported a regional bid to host the 2026 Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) Biennial Conference in early October, approving administrative support if the region is selected. The event is expected to draw approximately 200 attendees from across Alberta.

A proposed Media and Communications Policy outlining processes and guidelines for the Town’s communications was reviewed. Council requested minor amendments and will revisit the policy at the June 11, 2025, meeting for approval.

A three-year regional water operator agreement with the Village of Berwyn was approved, effective June 1, 2025, with the Town of Grimshaw providing water and wastewater services for the Village.

Lastly, Mayor Wendy Wald, Deputy Mayor Stacey Messner, and CAO Brian Allen will attend the 2026 AB Munis Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucus on June 25, 2025, at Peace Valley Inns in Peace River.
