Update Regarding Below:
The backburning operation near Garden River is now underway. All teams are in place and the operation is going as expected. We will post more updates and photos as we receive them.
Garden River Residents:
Please be advised of a planned backburning operation this afternoon near the Garden River trigger point. This operation has been planned by the Wildfire Incident Commander in consultation with LRRCN Chief and Council and both LRRCN Emergency Management Teams as a protection measure to prevent uncontrolled spread of the fire towards the community of Garden River.
The backburning operation will begin this afternoon, likely around 2:00pm. The Information Officer from the Paskwa Fire Emergency Management Team will be in Garden River before the operation begins and will be in constant communication between the Incident Commander and the teams in Garden River.
Those that wish to leave the community for the duration of the operation will be supported to do so. Those that wish to stay will be asked to shelter in place, most likely from about 4:00-8:00pm this evening although all times are subject to change based on information from the Incident Commander. It is recommended that people shelter in place at or around Sister Gloria School if possible, the community will be notified when it is time to take these measures.
The Information Officer will also be getting information today about any cabins, etc that might be in the path of the fire and should be protected if possible. There will be a map at Sister Gloria School this afternoon that people can mark any sites of importance.
Please see further plans and contact information attached.
