The province has launched their Emerging Innovators Challenge to help businesses reduce their emissions and energy costs.

Environment Minister Rebecca Schulz says the $40 million available comes from their Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction system.

“That’s where the heavy emitters, there is a levy, and those dollars go right back into reducing emissions and really coming up with innovation and emissions reduction technology. I think what was most important about this funding call is that it’s dedicated to helping small and medium sized businesses.”

Schulz says these projects will help businesses reduce costs, increase efficiency and stay competitive.

“Right now, they are able to access up to $5 million per project, the minimum request is $250,000 and really we’re leaving it somewhat open. This is all about innovation, this is about remissions reduction, finding ways to be more energy efficient. It’s really quite an open funding call as long as it’s round supporting small and medium sized businesses.”
