
On December 15, the Fort Vermilion RCMP got a complaint of a robbery that happened on the previous day (December 14, 2020). The victims reported when they were at the High Level Post Office, they entered their vehicle and found an individual sitting in the backseat. The individual was recognized and known by the victims. The victims were forced to drive away, being threatened with a knife.
The victims were demanded to hand over all valuables and cash they had as well as provide their personal banking information. The suspect also forced the victims to go into their internet banking and complete an e-transfer.
The altercation is alleged to have lasted over six hours and no injuries occurred to the victims.
The suspect was identified and a search to locate them began. Investigation led to locating the suspect without incident.
25-year-old Jarrett Michael Russell-Ducharme of Fort Vermilion has been charged in connection to this incident with:
- Kidnapping without a firearm (x2)
- Assault with a weapon (x2)
- Robbery (x2)
Russell-Ducharme remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Fort Vermilion provincial court on December 22, 2020.
