Flyers Taking Positives Out Of Tough Season

Things were a little tough for the Fairview Flyers in the NWJHL this season.

Head Coach and GM Lance Wiebe says they knew going into to the season that it was going to be a rebuilding year.

“Bringing in a dozen new players this season, you’ve got to come together quickly and get everybody up to speed on the style of game you want to play. We just seemed to have minutes of our games where we couldn’t put everything together and we’d fall behind and just weren’t able to dig out of holes.”

The team missed the playoffs after having a 3-35-4 record during the regular season.

Wiebe says the season was a learning experience for their younger players.

“We set a goal for ourselves that we wanted to try and be more effective defensively. It was a learning process for a lot of guys, but as the year went on we got better at it. There were improvements throughout, that’s what we were looking for this season.”

Wiebe says they expect to have a number of players returning to the team next season.
