Fort Vermilion RCMP executes firearms search warrants

John D’Or Prairie, Alta. – On Dec. 31, 2023, Fort Vermilion RCMP responded to a call of assault and pointing a firearm in Garden River, Alta. Four suspects were identified and warrants were obtained. On Jan. 7, 2024, Fort Vermilion RCMP, with assistance from RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, Explosives Disposal Unit, Eastern and Western Alberta District (EAD and WAD) Crime Reduction Units, WAD Criminal Intel and WAD National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, executed the search warrants in Garden River. Multiple items were seized and two additional individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants.

As a result of the warrants, the following items were seized:

  • Two bolt-action rifles;
  • Two pump-action shotguns;
  • Ammunition;
  • Extendable baton; and
  • Several imitation firearms including a pistol pellet gun.

As a result of the investigation, the following 5 people were arrested:

Willard Leeroy Peecheemow (36), a resident of Fox Lake, Alta., was charged with:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm;
  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized; and
  • Fail to comply.

Desmond D’Or (27), a resident of Garden River, was charged with:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm;
  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized; and
  • Fail to comply.

Karrie Peecheemow (33), a resident of Garden River, was charged with:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm;
  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized.

Anthony D’Or (29), a resident of High Level, Alta, was arrested on six outstanding warrants including a count of Assault.

Francis D’Or (25), a resident of Fort Vermilion, was arrested on two outstanding warrants including counts of Arson and Break and enter.

Furthermore, an arrest warrant was issued for Cornell D’Or (19), a resident of John D’Or Prairie, who has been charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized; and
  • Fail to comply.

Willard, Desmond and Karrie were brought before a justice of the peace. Willard was remanded into custody and is to appear before the Albert Court of Justice in Fort Vermilion on Jan. 15, 2024. Desmond, and Karrie were released on conditions. Their next court date is set for Jan. 23, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Vermilion.

Anthony and Francis were released on conditions once the warrants were executed.
