It started in March, was busy in May, June and August, and despite them still burning, it’s now over for 2023.

Wildfire season ended yesterday, after consuming over 1.2 million hectares of land, just in the Northwest alone.

Over 1,000 fires burned in the province this spring and summer, with the bulk of them being in the Peace and Mackenzie.

The biggest fires were the Fire near Rainbow Lake and Chateh, as well as the Fire near Fox Lake.

Victoria Ostendorf is the Wildfire Information Officer in the High Level Forest Area.

She discusses the season, delays, restrictions, and winter burns.
