
On December 21, 2020, a 911 call at approximately 9:28 at night was received about a motor vehicle collision on Highway 49 south of Donnelly between Township Roads 770 and 772. The RCMP, Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene of the crash.
The section of highway was diverted throughout the night until the morning of December 22 for an RCMP Collision Analyst to assess the scene and conduct an examination.
Investigation indicates a pick-up truck was heading southbound and entered the lane of oncoming traffic, colliding with another pick-up truck with a flat deck that was headed northbound on Highway 49. The pick-up truck with the flat deck heading northbound was not able to avoid the southbound pick-up truck heading southbound.
Both pickup trucks were only occupied by the drivers.
A 30 year old man from High Prairie was in the southbound pick-up was severely injured in result of the collision and died on the scene. The northbound pick-up truck with the flat deck trailer’s driver was assessed by EMS on the scene.
The fatality remains under investigation with the McLennan RCMP and no further updates are anticipated.
