The past few years has seen a lot of construction work happening on the old arch bridge in Peace River, and it’s not over yet.
The project has seen some issues happen that have caused some delays to it being finished.
The Trending 55 Newsroom has received the following statement from a transportation department spokesperson on the current status of the bridge project.
“While working on rehabilitating the original Peace River Bridge, additional structural and safety issues were identified. These additional issues have extended the time required to complete this project.
To ensure this work can be safely completed in a cost-effective manner, the department will be retendering this part of the rehabilitation to secure more specialized expertise. The tender for this work is anticipated to be awarded by fall 2024, with a completion date in fall 2025.
To ensure the safety of drivers and workers, the bridge will remain closed with the current detour in place until the rehabilitation is completed. We appreciate the community’s patience, as safety is a critical consideration in completing this work.”
