A local woman in Peace River has put together an event to help provide some relief for people affected by the flooding in Fort Vermilion.

Judy Ducharme is originally from Fort Vermilion, she says with the pandemic restrictions making it hard to travel up there, she had to come up with another way to help out.

“I thought about having the stuff the truck kind of event and I did a posting on Facebook just to see how can I get this going. Wily’s Trucking was one of the businesses that I’ve seen them do this for other events and they stepped up again.”

Donations are being collected at the Wily’s locations in Peace River, Grande Prairie and Fort St. John.

Ducharme says they will be collecting donations today, tomorrow and on Friday.

“They’re still under a boil water advisory so potable water and drinking water is essential. Their food bank is obviously in need of non-perishable food items. Those are probably the top two.
