Premier Danielle Smith and members of the United Conservative Party (UCP) Caucus recently met with Reeve Tyler Olsen of the Municipal District of Greenview, Mayor Jackie Clayton of the City of Grande Prairie, and Reeve Bob Marshall of the County of Grande Prairie to discuss key regional priorities.

The discussions focused on several critical initiatives:

– Highway 40X: Recognized as a vital transportation corridor connecting local industries to global markets, with $6 billion in private investment poised to proceed. The leaders are advocating for construction to commence by 2026.

– Maskwa Medical Clinic: A proposed regional solution aimed at improving healthcare access and outcomes, particularly benefiting Indigenous communities.

– Upper Smoky Subregional Plan (USSRP): A call for provincial collaboration with municipalities and stakeholders to ensure balanced, transparent, and locally informed land-use decisions.

– Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum: A world-class paleontology hub seeking renewed provincial investment to enhance its offerings.

– Electricity Distribution Regulation Review: Advocacy for a fairer, modernized system to support rural communities and industrial users.

The municipal leaders expressed their gratitude to Premier Smith and the UCP Caucus for the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about the path forward for Northwest Alberta.

They emphasized their commitment to working collaboratively with the Government of Alberta to strengthen the region and build a stronger province for all residents.
