The École des Quatre-Vents school community bids farewell to the school’s old building!

The Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest (CSNO) and École des Quatre-Vents officially announce the start of demolition work on the old school building. The demolition work, approved by the city of Peace River, will begin on March 7 and is expected to last about 3 to 4 weeks. Afterwards, the space will be developed into the new playground.

This marks the end of an era for this building, which has played an important role in the educational history of our region. It was built in 1976 by the Peace River School Division
(PRSD) to accommodate McGrath School (originally Norglen School) and was modernized and expanded in 1988.

In 2006, PRSD transferred ownership of McGrath School to the CSNO, who was seeking a new space to meet the growing needs of École des Quatre-Vents. Upon its opening in 1999, École des Quatre-Vents used portable classrooms located south of Springfield School. With the increase in students and school levels, the acquisition of the former McGrath School met the need for space, and students were able to move into their new premises in September 2006.

With the addition of secondary programming, this aging building no longer met the needs of the student population, and the CSNO lobbied for a modernization of the building. After numerous studies, the government announced in November 2019 that the best solution was the construction of a new building. Finally, in October 2023, students and staff moved into their brand-new school with great pride and happiness.

“We are aware of the importance of this building in the history of our community, but we are also looking to the future to ensure that École des Quatre-Vents continue to promote
educational excellence and the well-being of our students,” says Sylvianne Maisonneuve, president of CSNO.

The CSNO and École des Quatre-Vents would like to thank the community for its ongoing support and understanding during this transition period.
