Crops in ground in the Northwest

Seeding in Alberta’s Peace Region is nearly complete, with 97% of crops planted—surpassing the five-year average of 88% for this time of year.

Spring wheat and dry peas are fully seeded, while canola is at 97%, and oats and barley exceed 91%.

However, both surface and subsurface soil moisture levels have declined week over week due to limited spring precipitation.

Current sub-surface moisture conditions are rated as 10% poor, 45% fair, and 44% good, with no areas rated excellent or excessive.

These conditions are similar to those experienced in 2022 and 2023.

Historically, June rains have significantly improved soil moisture, and additional precipitation in the coming weeks will be crucial for the 2025 crop to reach its full potential.
