Alberta’s vaccine lottery & Covid-19 update

The province has announced a new incentive for Albertans to get their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine faster by holding three draws to win $1 million if they have been vaccinated with one or two doses.

The “Open for Summer Lottery” is open to Alberta residents 18 years or older and they can now register on the governments website. The first draw will close for registration seven days after the province hits the 70% goal of first dose vaccinations. To encourage more people to get fully vaccinated, two additional $1 million lotteries will follow in August and September.

Premier Jason Kenney says for those who have been putting of getting their first dose, to do so now. “We’ve seen a real drop off in the past week and a half of first doses administered and doses being made.” Kenney encourages all eligible Albertans to roll up their sleeves to “save lives, protect our communities and get life back to normal.”

The winner of the first lottery will be announced on the day Alberta enters Stage 3 of the “Open for Summer Plan.”

 

On June 14, 2021 Alberta Health Services confirmed 115 additional cases of COVID-19 in the province.

There are currently 270 people in hospital with the virus and 73 are in ICU.

The total number of active cases in Alberta is 3,089.

For active cases in our area; there are 40 in Mackenzie County, eleven in the MD of Peace, five in Big Lakes County while all other surrounding counties and MD’s in our region have two active cases or less.

68.8% of eligible people in the province have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 20.8% are fully vaccinated.

The percentage of people around the region receiving at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine is:

  • Falher area – 46.3%,
  • Peace River area – 42.2%,
  • Spirit River area – 40.3%,
  • Fairview area – 38.6%,
  • Manning area – 37.5%,
  • Valleyview area – 37.8%,
  • High Prairie area – 33.2%
  • High Level area (Mackenzie County) – 13.8%
