COVID-19 UPDATE: January 28

On January 28, Alberta Health Services confirmed 461 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 122,821.

Seven people passed away, which means 1,606 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 9,991 cases of COVID-19 and 108 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,010 active cases in our zone with 49 in Big Lakes County, 43 in Mackenzie County, 38 in the MD of Greenview, 31 in the MD of Peace, 12 in the MD of Smoky River, 10 in Northern Sunrise County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have two or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 113,174 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 8,041 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • High Prairie Health Complex
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • Stone Brook Lodge, Grimshaw
  • Sugarplum Tree Daycare, Peace River

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
