COVID-19 UPDATE: April 29

On April 29, Alberta Health Services confirmed 2,048 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 188,727.

Two people passed away, which means 2,075 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

632 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 19,823 cases of COVID-19 and 156 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,994 active cases in our zone with 129 in Mackenzie County, 87 in Big Lakes County, 47 in the MD of Peace, 35 in Northern Sunrise County, 22 in the MD of Greenview, 12 in the MD of Spirit River, 11 in the MD of Fairview, 10 in Clear Hills County, five in the MD of Smoky River and the County of Northern Lights, three in Birch Hills County and two in Saddle Hills County.

AHS is reporting that 165,267 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 21,385 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • The Grocery People, High Level
  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
