COVID-19 UPDATE: April 28

On April 28, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,839 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 186,679.

Six people passed away, which means 2,073 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

643 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 19,489 cases of COVID-19 and 156 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,894 active cases in our zone with 124 in Mackenzie County, 91 in Big Lakes County, 38 in the MD of Peace and Northern Sunrise County, 21 in the MD of Greenview, 15 in the MD of Spirit River, 12 in Clear Hills County and the MD of Fairview, eight in the MD of Smoky River, seven in the County of Northern Lights, five in Birch Hills County and one in Saddle Hills County.

AHS is reporting that 163,668 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 20,938 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • The Grocery People, High Level
  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
