Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest Superintendent says new and smaller school will be great for all students

École des Quatre-Vents will be a smaller school, but a better one. That’s according to Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest Superintendent, Brigitte Kropielnicki, who says the new school will accommodate up to 200 students. “We are going to a school for 200 kids, but with room for labs and a proper kitchen for home economics will make a difference. Right now, we can’t teach that (home economics) at the current school.  It’s frustrating for the school and students.”

Kropielnicki adds that she does not see a small school as something negative. “Yes, we are going to have less space for students. Right now, we are at 100 students and we do plan to grow. We think it is going to be a better school.” She also mentioned that the school will include a larger gymnasium and changing rooms. There are no changing rooms in the current facility.

She also mentions that since the announcement came from the province last week, it is too soon to determine when ground will be broken on the new school. “I want to meet with the architects and Alberta Infrastructure to see what we can do in terms of planning,” says Kropielnicki. “I want to set up a committee with parents and some students. Construction will come after planning.”

Kropielnicki says she is also very thankful to everyone involved in this project. “I want to thank the community for their patience and their support in this. The school board did its job but the parents and students were key factors in this. We want to thank everyone for their support and collaboration.
