Big Lakes County Continue to Debate Water Options

Councillors in the Big Lakes County continue to debate which water option is most effective for its rural community residents.

As part of its new draft policy for water extension, council is undecided if extending water through a property line or tap is best.

Councillor Don Charrios says the county would extend the service to more people by connecting to the property line  while another councillor believes only half the affected individuals would connect to the property line due to the costs associated with the option.

The actual cost to be absorbed by the property owner remains unknown though council did decide on a minimum cost of $20,000 at a previous meeting. This amount was based on a $60,000 sum of which the property owner would be responsible for 30%.

Yesterday’s town council meeting aimed to shed more light on the issue- consulting engineer Trent Mc Laughlin was to present the costs associated for both options.
