Fairview’s Town Council held a regular meeting on May 4, 2021, and plans that have been in the making for a period of time are being finalized.
A welcome, entrance archway has hit the final stage of rendering. It’s planned to stretch above and across 110 Street north of the 100 Ave intersection (on Main Street just off Highway 2). The Town of Fairview has budgeted $240,000 for the archway, which will have wording on the backside and front, LED lighting with the ability to change colour and goose-neck lighting over banners.
Mayor of Fairview, Gord McLeod says there has been discussion for years about adding some curb appeal to Main Street (110 Street). “It’s going to be a… Welcome… addition, council is very happy with the rendering, it’s gonna look good and many people I’ve spoke to are interested in what it is going to look like.” McLeod says with the lights being able to change colours, events and weeks with certain colour themes will be used for it as another way to celebrate or commemorate.
Another topic brought up in the meeting was residents along the travel route of 100 Street in Fairview issued a letter to council, with 16 signatures requesting a solution to a gravel road. The letter regards the condition of the street from 105th Ave, north to the town limit. The letter says the gravel road is “unacceptable for residents who travel daily on the dusty road overtaken by washboards.” The road is unlike others in town, which are asphalt paved.
McLeod says council did bring the letter to attention, but is sadly not giving the response residents want to hear. “As much as it would be nice to do… it’s going to cost a few million dollars.” McLeod says there was an estimate done, costing around three to four million dollars, as the roads around would have to be rebuilt too.
Council is thinking of ways it can be implemented in the budget for future reconstruction of the gravel road and the ones surrounding it, but McLeod says “it’s just not in the budget right now.”
