Faust RCMP Investigate Fatal Collison between motorcycle and semi truck – Update
Faust, Alta. – On Jan. 8, 2025, Faust RCMP arrested Michael Maurice Koochin, a resident of Slave Lake, Alta, in relation to this fatal motor vehicle collision.
Koochin was charged with:
- Criminal negligence, causing death (without firearm) x2
- Criminal negligence, causing bodily harm x 6
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death x 2
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle collision causing bodily harm x 6
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Driver fail to prepare trip inspection report in legible format
- Driver fail to maintain an accurate daily log in duplicate
- Driver operate commercial vehicle not complying with standards as specified in Section 10(N)(II) Schedule 2 of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation
- Driver operate a commercial vehicle not complying with standards as specified in Section 14(A)(III) Schedule 2 of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation
- Driver operate commercial vehicle not inspected under daily trip inspection requirements and with major defect
- Driver fail to operate a commercial vehicle as specified
- Driver operate commercial vehicle not complying with standards as specified in section 16(2)(A) Schedule 2 of the commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation – Vehicle not equipped with break system acting on all wheels
- Driver operate motor vehicle that was not insured
- Driver operate a motor vehicle not complying with standards as specified in section 12(a) Schedule 2 of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation
Koochin was brought before a Justice of the Peace, where he was remanded with a court date of Jan. 9, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wabasca Desmarais

Faust RCMP on scene of serious motor vehicle collision -correction
Sucker Creek, Alta. – On Aug. 31, 2024, at 11:42 a.m., Faust RCMP received a report of a serious collision involving several motorcycles on Highway 2 near Range Road 143. An off duty RCMP officer was already on scene assisting the injured as other emergency services personnel arrived. Multiple riders were injured and two were deceased. The deceased have been identified as a 38-year-old male resident of Drift Pile First Nation, Alta., and a 33-year-old resident of Edmonton Alta.. At least 4 additional riders with various levels of injury were taken to hospital.
Initial investigation reveals that the motorcycles riders were travelling in one large group when an oncoming semi truck crossed over the centerline striking the riders.
RCMP remained on scene for several hours conducting an investigation. Although the investigation continues alcohol impairment is not believed to be a factor.
RCMP send their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
