All-Candidates Forums Take Place in Peace River & High Prairie

The Chambers of Commerce in the Towns of Peace River and High Prairie each held All-Candidates forums within their respective communities on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

Candidates for mayor and councillor in both areas talked about a variety of issues.

But some one-liners were also delivered in both areas as well…

PEACE RIVER

In Peace River, one of the issues discussed was the controversy surrounding the impending closure of Berwyn’s Autumn Lodge…

Another topic brought up that’s been discussed includes whether or not the town should have their own Economic Development Officer (EDO)…

A variety of other issues were discussed by each of the candidates throughout the evening, including how they’d help attract tourism to the town. As well, spectators in attendance were also given the opportunity to ask questions too.

For those unable to attend last nights proceedings, the town live-streamed the event on their Facebook Page

HIGH PRAIRIE

Over in High Prairie, they had their own share of issues brought up during the discussion.

A pair of important ones were conflict of interest, as well as integrating Northern Lakes College.

Every candidate present, including Mayoral candidates Linda Cox and Brian Panasiuk, were asked to weigh in…

The town’s recent move to dissolve the Recreation Board also came up during the conversation. Numerous candidates weighed in on whether or not it should be kept…

As well, the candidates running for the High Prairie School Board in Ward 2 were also invited to participate at the forum.

Overall, High Prairie Chamber of Commerce President Jennifer Zatko says she was pleased with how candid each participant was with their answers, and that they were able to reach a wide spectrum of issues affecting citizens.

Zatco moderated the High Prairie forum; The Peace River forum was moderated by former Chamber president Andy Gauvreau.
