Airport to change hands

For the first time since 1996, the Peace River Regional Airport will no longer be owned by the Town of Peace River.

Last night, the town announced that the airport will be transferred to the Peace River Regional Airport Association on December 15.

Council ratified the deal at its meeting on November 23 and was waiting for the board of the airport association to accept the transfer, which it did yesterday.

The association’s board consists of five members and all men call the Peace Region home.

As part of the agreement, the town will provide a total of $1.4 million to cover operating costs for next year, and 2022.

Jeremy Hand is the President of the association.

The other members of the board are: Brett Smyl, Nate Hilman, Matt Gannon and Mitch Krzysztan.

A statement from the not-for-profit group says, “By taking a business centered approach to the operation of the airport we will streamline processes, reduce operating expenses and have a dedicated approach to the growth and promotion of the airport.”
