A judge has thrown out an Alberta separatist petition, ruling the province had a duty to consult with First Nations — a decision quickly declared “anti-democratic” by Premier Danielle Smith.
Lawyers for several First Nations argued last month that Alberta’s referendum process and its use by separatists was unconstitutional, as there’s no requirement for Indigenous consultation.
Several people were transported to hospital with various injuries after a Coach bus rolled on Hwy 672, north of Beaverlodge yesterday morning.
The bus was carrying oilfield workers, with a total of 17 people on board.
Investigations are underway, however speed, alcohol, or the weather do not appear to be factors in the crash.
High Level Council has approved their Operating and Capital budgets, with a tax reduction of 3.8% included.
The budget follows an evaluation and realignment of spending versus budget-line items. It will result in just over $2 million dollars going into reserves.
