Officials in Peace River are reviewing lessons learned from the Flood Watch back in April. Mayor Shelly Shannon says residents are still talking about the event, and feedback continues to come in as the town evaluates its emergency response efforts.
Shannon credits local authorities and emergency personnel for taking what she calls a proactive approach, rather than a reactive one. She says behind-the-scenes workers deserve recognition for helping keep the community informed and prepared throughout the situation.
The mayor adds that communication played a major role during the Flood Watch, helping residents stay updated and reducing uncertainty during a stressful time. Shannon says that approach helped prevent widespread panic in the community.
Officials are now making adjustments based on feedback gathered after the event, as preparations continue for future emergencies. Shannon is also reminding residents to remain alert, especially as the region moves into the heart of wildfire season.
